The new music video I directed for Shrag’s new single ‘Tendons in the Night’.
Flux Magazine hit the nail on the head while describing the video and track:
“Like a cross between X Factor and the Olympics a line of voyeuristic judges watch a girl perform before them. This starts as pure athletics but descends into dirty dancing as desperation and the will to succeed kicks in. But this lady is no doormat as the finale suggests. ‘Tendons in the Night’ is the sound of a band hitting their groove with aplomb. Shrag describe the song as “a voyeuristic ode to the pursuit of gymnastic perfection, but we doubt very much it will be sanctioned by the IOC.”
Yesterday while directing a music video for Shrag’s new single ‘Tendons in the Night’.
Cloud Nothings - No Future / No Past Dir: John Ryan Manning
Super intriguing video! Great build up. Great pay off. Great idea.
Now this is nice. I especially like the final third of the video. I enjoy a bit of crumbling destruction.
Going through my favourites on youtube I’d forgotten about this video.
One shot. A decent into chaos. Deliciously menacing.
Youth Lagoon - Montana Dir: Tyler T Williams
After watching this video yesterday I found and fell in love with Youth Lagoon’s album.
This video visually echoes Tree of Life somewhat. The main difference here being that all the emotion that should have been in Tree of Life is instead crammed into this promo video.
Friendly Fires - Hurting Dir: David Lewandowski
Seeing music videos like this really make me curse how limited budgets force me to constrain really imaginative ideas.
I need to work up to getting those budgets!
R.E.M. - ÜBerlin - Dir: Sam Taylor-Wood
I just grinned all the way through this video.
Arcade Fire - Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)
There is an interactive version of this video available HERE in which you interactive with the video through the power of dance (or a mouse).
I personally prefer the non-interactive version as I love the shots, the lighting, the movement and the general suburban / Gregory Crewdson thing going on.
Check out the blog post by the videos director explaining all.

Fucked Up - Turn The Season
Another awesome music video for Fucked Up by director Scott Cudmore, who also directed Queen of Hearts, one of my favourite videos of this year. This is a great companion video and if I’m not mistaken features some of the kids, and the teacher from the Queen of Hearts video. I’m enjoying the different levels of artifice that is being played with across both of these videos.
Oh and stick with the video…wait for it…
Written & directed by Scott Cudmore Produced by Brendan Brady Photographed by Michael Leblanc Art directed by Zazu Myers & Sandy Miranda Styled by Corrina Allen Special fx by William Chang Camera assistant: Laurence Bortnick Executive producer: Michael Leblanc Production company: Leblanc + Cudmore (http://www.leblancandcudmore.com)
This is stil one of the cleverest music videos I have ever seen.
Frankie & The HeartStrings - Everybody Looks Better (In The Right Light)
Another video I directed released last Thursday.
Darren Hayman - I Taught You How To Dance
Music video released a couple of weeks ago now directed by myself.
